Harry Maguire says father suffered rib injuries in Wembley ‘stampede’ | Football News – Times of India

England defender Harry Maguire said his father was left with rib injuries and struggled to breathe after being trampled by fans during crowd disturbances at Wembley Stadium before the Euro 2020 final against Italy. Supporters clashed with each other and officials, breached security cordons and charged into the perimeter area of Wembley before the start of Sunday's game, which Italy won in a penalty shootout. British police said 19 of its officers were injured while 86 people, including 53 at the venue, were arrested. European soccer's governing body UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings and charged England's Football Association for disturbances. ‘Worst feeling in the world’, says Harry Kane after England’s defeat in Euro final | Football News – Times of India

LONDON: England captain Harry Kane admitted his side's penalty shoot-out defeat in the Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday was "the worst feeling in the world". Along with Harry Maguire, Kane was one of only two England players to score from the spot as Italy won the shoot-out 3-2 after a 1-1 draw following extra time at Wembley. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed their penalties, leaving England to rue a wasted opportunity to win their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup. "Penalties is the worst feeling in the world when you lose," Kane told ITV. "Anyone can miss a penalty. Penalties is penalties. We went through a process. The boys did everything they could, it just wasn't our night." Luke Shaw had given England a dream start when he scored in the sec...

All ticket holders will need to have either a negative COVID-19 test or proof of full vaccination - two doses received 14 days before the fixture. The announcement came after Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi called on Monday for the final to be moved from England due to rising COVID-19 cases in the country. Wembley's capacity has been set at 22,500 for the three group and the round of 16 match between Italy and Austria on June 26 but will rise to 40,000 for the other round of 16 ma...

UEFA has issues with Champions League final switch to London, Porto a backup

UEFA has given the British government until Tuesday to offer the travel waivers it requires to move the Champions League final to Wembley or the all-English game could be played in Portugal instead. The May 29 showpiece is set to be moved from Istanbul after Turkey was added to England’s “red list” of countries with severe coronavirus outbreaks. Porto is one of the backup options after UEFA hit snags with its preferred location of London. UEFA held talks with the British government on Monday but was unable to secure exemptions from quarantine for everyone they want to be able to attend a final in London — including sponsors of the Champions League, their guests and media — people familiar with the talks told The Associated Press. They spoke on condition of anonymity because...
