Ollie Robinson free to resume career after tweet storm | Cricket News – Times of India

LONDON: Ollie Robinson is free to play for England again after receiving an eight-game ban -- five of them deferred -- for offensive tweets he posted several years ago, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced on Saturday. The 27-year-old pace bowler will be available for England's forthcoming matches including the five-Test series with India as a disciplinary panel deemed him to have already served the three-game ban. He was also fined £3,200 ($4,400). The seamer was suspended from England duty pending an investigation after historic racist and sexist posts made between 2012 and 2014 re-emerged during his Test debut in the first Test against New Zealand in June. "Following a hearing on 30 June, the Discipline Commission Panel decided that Robinson should be suspended from playing ...

On this day in 2007: Sachin Tendulkar became first batsman to register 15,000 ODI runs | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: It was on this day, 14 years ago, when Sachin Tendulkar became the first batsman in the history of cricket to register 15,000 ODI runs. The Master Blaster achieved the feat against South Africa at Belfast in the second ODI of the three-match series. Chasing 227 for the win, Tendulkar opened the batting for India and he went on to play a knock of 93 runs from 106 balls to go past the 15,000 run mark in 50-over cricket. Tendulkar's knock was studded with 13 fours and two sixes. The right-handed batsman was dismissed in the 32nd over of the innings, but India managed to go over the line by six wickets. In the end, Yuvraj Singh and Dinesh Karthik guided India to victory. Tendulkar had made his debut in Test cricket on November 15, 1989. In the same year on December 18, he played ...

Gavaskar, not Tendulkar, the greatest: Former umpire Gothoskar | Cricket News – Times of India

PUNE: While standing in his debut Test as umpire in Kanpur in 1973, Madhav Gothoskar was challenged by the then English skipper Tony Lewis over a substitution rule. Without pausing for a second, he recited the rules to Lewis. The Englishman was convinced he didn't have any scope to argue. Gothoskar (92) recited the substitute rule again, without pausing for a second, while narrating the incident on Wednesday. His audience was convinced that Gothoskar was one of the best umpires the sport has seen. The former international umpire had his listeners in awe while being felicitated by Cricketers' Foundation here on Wednesday. Gothoskar received a cheque of Rs75,000. He has temporarily moved to Pune with his wife Leela, as his house in Mumbai has gone under redevelopment. "There are 42 laws a...

Battled anxiety for 10-12 years of my career: Sachin Tendulkar | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday said he battled anxiety for a major part of his 24-year-old career before realising that his pre-game quirks were an important part of his preparation. Talking about mental health, which has gained significance in the COVID times with players spending a lot of time in bio-bubbles, Tendulkar said acceptability is the key. "Over a period of time I realised that besides preparing physically for a game, you have to prepare yourself mentally also. In my mind the match started long before I entered the ground. The anxiety levels were very high," Tendulkar said in an interaction organised by Unacademy. "I felt anxiety for 10-12 years, and had many sleepless nights before a game. Later on I started accepting that it was part of my preparation...
