NEW DELHI: The Asian Games hasn't been a happy hunting ground for Indian weightlifters. The country boasts of 14 medals at the continental multisport event - five silver and nine bronze - but it's been 25 long years, spread across five editions of the Asiad, that an Indian weightlifter last finished on the podium.The last time India won an Asiad medal was way back in 1998 in Bangkok, when Karnam Malleswari had secured a silver. At the last edition of the Games, a four-member Indian weightlifting contingent had returned empty-handed.
