IPL 2023: ‘Tough pill to swallow’, says AB de Villiers on RCB’s loss to GT

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore star AB de Villiers said the side’s loss to Gujarat Titans by six wickets at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday is a “tough pill to swallow”. The loss meant that the hosts could not qualify for the playoffs in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023 season. De Villiers on his Twitter wrote, “Tough pill to swallow. Well tried RCB. Shubman Gill and the Titans simply too good today.” The 39-year-old also appreciated the ton of Virat Kohli as he further wrote “Virat is there when we need him!” Despite the ton from Kohli RCB could not get over the line as Shubman Gill slammed a sparkling century. The result paved the way for Mumbai Indians’ entry into the playoffs as the fourth team. Kohli scored his seventh IPL century. Tough pill to swallow. W...

‘When he plays such shots, it’s a different Shubman Gill’: Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya praises centurion

Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya was full of praise for his star batter Shubman Gill, who cracked a century to lead the team to a six-wicket victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final group stage game of the 2023 Indian Premier League on Sunday. While Gujarat had already sealed their top spot in the table, the defeat means RCB will not make the cut for the playoffs, with Mumbai Indians joining Gujarat, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. Gujarat needed a blitzkrieg from Gill after Virat Kohli scored his seventh IPL century to lead RCB to 197 for five in their 20 overs batting first. Gill though slammed a 52-ball 104, while Vijay Shankar scored 53 in 35 in the rain-delayed match to seal victory. Speaking on the player of the match, Gujarat captain Pandya sai...

IPL 2023: Protégé Shubman Gill dethrones idol Virat Kohli

Synopsis: In a battle between the present and future of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill again showed he is ready to take the baton forward from Virat Kohli. “There’s potential and then there’s Gill. Go on and lead the next generation. God bless you,” This is what Virat Kohli wrote on his Instagram story when Shubman Gill notched up his maiden IPL hundred. Gill had also admitted to the broadcasters that he has grown up watching Virat Kohli and called him his “idol.” Right from the time Gill emerged as the breakout star from the 2018 U-19 World Cup, he has been seen as someone who will take the baton forward from Kohli. There is an uncanny similarity in the way Gill and Kohli play their shots. They can hit the ball pitched just outside off through extra cover and mid-wicket like a mirror ima...

Shubman Gill scores his second IPL century as GT eliminate RCB from tournament, MI clinch last play-off spot

Taking a leaf out of Virat Kohli’s books, Gujarat Titans’ Shubman Gill also scored his second straight 100 in this season’s Indian Premier League against the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. He got to the milestone with 5 fours and 8 sixes as GT eliminated RCB from the competition with Mumbai Indians clinching the last play off spot. Another similarity he shared with Kohli is that the RCB batter’s last century was also against SRH while Gill too scored his ton against them last Monday. Earlier, Kohli scored a record seventh Indian Premier League (IPL) century on Sunday but was unable to help Royal Challengers Bangalore claim the final playoff berth on offer as they slipped to a six-wicket defeat by Gujarat Titans. Shubman Gill seals off the chase with a MAXIMUM 👏🏻👏🏻@gujarat_titan...

Last year, we did a big favour to RCB, hope we get result we are looking for: Rohit Sharma

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma looked pretty confident after his team demolished bottom-placed team Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede on Sunday. With Mumbai’s win, they move to 16 points on the Indian Premier League table but their fate still hangs in the balance. In order for Mumbai to qualify, Royal Challengers Bangalore need to lose against defending champions Gujarat Titans. Last year, it was the other way around when Mumbai’s result had a bearing on RCB’s qualification. A 5-wicket win for MI against DC ultimately would help Virat Kohli and Co go through to the next round as the 4th placed team. Reminding them of that, Rohit cheekily said, “Last year, we did a big favour to RCB, I hope we get the result what we are looking for.” We wanted to win and not worry about what happ...
