Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma are keen to play T20 Internationals

India’s batting stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have informed the BCCI that they are available for selection in the shortest format despite not featuring in T20 Internationals since the 2022 T20 World Cup, The Indian Express understands. The selection committee will meet on Friday to pick the team for the three T20 games against Afghanistan and for the first two Tests against England. The series against Afghanistan starts on January 11, while the five-match Test series versus England begins on January 25. The Indian team will be playing only three T20 Internationals against Afghanistan before the World Cup in June. The Indian cricket board and the team management is likely to sit down with skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli about their future in T20Is in the coming days. It is understood that the duo have made themselves available for selection in the format, but it’s learnt that they will be persuaded to rethink their T20 future. The matter will also be up for discussion when Chetan Sharma’s new look selection panel meets in the coming days. I have not given up on T20 format: Rohit Sharma

India’s Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma on Monday said he has no plans to “give up on T20 Internationals” amid strong indications that the transition has already started under Hardik Pandya. After the T20 World Cup failure in 2022, Pandya has lead Team India to two T20 series wins against New Zealand and Sri Lanka while Rohit, along with another former skipper Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, are currently not a part of the shortest format. “Firstly, it is not possible to play back-to-back matches.
