Rain brings down heat and humidity; yellow alert issued till Wednesday
After a brief dry spell, Mumbai woke up to heavy showers on Saturday morning, ushering in relief from the heat and humidity levels, which had surpassed 90 per cent. The state is set to ring in a rainy week ahead with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issuing a fresh yellow alert of ‘thunderstorms with lightning, moderate showers and gusty winds’ for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad districts, besides other parts of Maharashtra, until Wednesday at least.
Attributing the pre-monsoon spells to a low pressure area (LPA) forming in the Arabian Sea, director of IMD Mumbai Shubhangi Bhute said the system will further contribute to the setting in of early monsoon in the region.
