Matthew Wade tests positive for Covid, but likely to play against England

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade on Thursday became the second Australian player to test positive for COVID-19, a day ahead of the defending champions’ crucial T20 World Cup match against England. The 34-year-old, who is the only wicketkeeper in the 15-member squad, is showing mild symptoms but is expected to feature in the match against England at the MCG. The International Cricket Council (ICC) rules don’t bar a player from taking part in a match if he is COVID positive. Wade opted out of Australia’s optional indoor session on Thursday afternoon. If he misses out, David Warner or Glenn Maxwell is expected to take the gloves against England. Maxwell put on the wicketkeeping gloves during practice to do the drills. While skipper Aaron Finch had earlier stated that Warner would likely keep wick...

That looked horrible: Matthew Wade on the Mark Wood run-in

Australia’s Mathew Wade admitted that his recent run-in with Mark Wood during the 1st T20I against England looked horrible. The incident happened in the third ball of the 17th over of Australia’s chase of 209 when England pacer Mark Wood bowled a shortish delivery and Wade subsequently top-edged it. However, as the ball went straight up – both the bowler and the keeper came rushing forward to grab it. But Wood was blocked by Wade. Replays showed his left arm coming across in front of Wood’s face, thus rendering him helpless. The ball could have also rolled back onto the stumps as well. The umpires got together and had a chat but decided to let it pass and did not comply with the obstructing field rule. Now, speaking to The The Unplayable Podcast, the southpaw said that he has been dazed...

Aaron Finch, Wade help Australia to tight T20 win over West Indies

Aaron Finch and Matthew Wade revived Australia’s run chase before Mitchell Starc clinched the three-wicket win with a ball to spare Wednesday in a dramatic last over of the series-opening Twenty20 international against West Indies. Both teams are using the two-game series to fine-tune for the T20 World Cup later this month. West Indies posted 145-9 after being sent in to bat and then had Australia at 21-2 in reply when paceman Sheldon Cottrell dismissed David Warner and Mitch Marsh in the second over. That brought regular opener Finch to the crease at No. 4 and he scored 58 runs from 53 balls despite Australia slipping to 58-5 in the eighth over, sharing a 69-run sixth-wicket stand with Wade. When he was out, caught in the outfield trying to hit Alzarri Joseph (2-17) over mid-wicket, Au...

Seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar's lacklustre performances in the end overs are disrupting India's plans for the T20 World CupOn August 28, when Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 4-26 to play a key role in India's thrilling five-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup at Dubai, few thought that, with just a month left before their 2022 T20 World Cup opener against the same opponents, India's sole 'T20 specialist' bowler would become a source of one of India's biggest worries. In three out of India's last four matches, Bhuvneshwar has been taken to the cleaners in the penultimate over. Everything that he has tried-yorker, wide yorker, slower ball, knuckle ball or a bouncer, has failed, as he has ended up becoming cannon fodder for batsmen waiting to pounce on his friendly medium pace. OUT OF F...
