Last winter, when Australia toured India, KL Rahul was battling for a spot in the Test side. With a red-hot Shubman Gill waiting in the wings, mid-way through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India benched him for the final two Tests. He had gone more than a year without a century in Tests, struggling for runs across conditions. In the time he spent away from the Test side, and especially since his return from injury in August, his stocks have only been increasing.
