Yet again, Ravichandran Ashwin gets the short end of the ODI stick | Cricket News – Times of India

The absence of Ravichandran Ashwin from the white-ball squads for the upcoming tour of South Africa is not unexpected but galling nonetheless. Does it mean that the door has been shut on the veteran off-spinning allrounder in limited-overs cricket? There was, yet again, little conversation around Ashwin when the teams were being chosen, despite him being someone who still has the fire and the wherewithal to perform with distinction in every format. The selectors have named the T20 squad keeping in mind next year’s T20 World Cup and no one can argue with that. But Ashwin doesn’t get a place even in the ODI team after having been part of the 2023 ODI World Cup group. Of course, he played just one game in the mega event, the first one against Australia. But with regulars like Jasprit Bumra...

Vikram Rathour feels Ajinkya Rahane’s form could be critical to Test series in South Africa | Cricket News – Times of India

India's batting coach Vikram Rathour feels Ajinkya Rahane's composed approach has been the defining characteristic of his Test comeback, and with the Indian team scheduled to tour South Africa later this year, Rathour emphasized the importance of Rahane maintaining his current form.In the recent World Test Championship final against Australia in London, Rahane's scores of 89 and 46 were perhaps the only bright spots for the Indian team in an otherwise disappointing outcome. After an 18-month hiatus from Test cricket, Rahane made a strong comeback and was subsequently appointed as the vice-captain for the ongoing tour of the West Indies.Unfortunately, Rahane could score only three runs in India's only innings of the first Test, which the visitors won by an innings and 141 runs to take a 1...
