AIFF rejects Kerala Blasters’ appeal against Rs 4 crore fine for abandonment of ISL game

[ad_1] The All India Football Federation on Friday rejected Kerala Blasters FC’s appeal against the Rs 4 crore fine imposed on them for misconduct and abandonment of their ISL playoff match against Bengaluru FC. The committee also rejected KBFC’s head coach Ivan Vukumanovic’s appeal against the fine of Rs 5 lakh and a 10-game ban imposed on him. In both cases, the Appeal Committee upheld the earlier decisions of the Disciplinary Committee and were asked to “pay the respective fines within two weeks”. Their ISL playoff on March 3 sparked controversy as Kerala Blasters walked off the field claiming that Sunil Chhetri’s winning strike from an extra time freekick was not “legitimate”. They claimed that referee Crystal John did not blow the whistle before Chhetri took the kick and the players...

Dortmund ready to lift Bundesliga trophy, Bayern hope for dramatic twist

[ad_1] The stage is set in Dortmund for the most dramatic Bundesliga finale in more than a decade with Borussia fans desperate to see the team win their first league title in 11 years on Saturday against visitors Mainz 05. The Ruhr valley club, who last won the Bundesliga under then coach Juergen Klopp in 2012, are one win away from making sure they lift the Meisterschale in front of a sold-out 81,000 home crowd on the last matchday of the season. Dortmund are two points clear of Bayern Munich going into the last game and know that a draw or even defeat might still be enough to secure the title depending on Bayern’s result in Cologne. But in Dortmund there is no goal other than to win. “We just have to win one more time,” said Dortmund sports director Sebastian Kehl, captain of the 2012-...

Bairstow was at the peak of his powers when the freak leg injury derailed his career. Expectedly, he had huge apprehensions over his future following the incident. “You wonder whether or not you’ll be able to walk again, jog again, run again, play cricket again. Absolutely, those things do go through your mind. “It depends how long you think about them. There are many different things, until you get back to playing, well… you wonder, is it goi...

IPL 2023: We would like to play on any surface, says CSK batter Ruturaj Gaikwad

[ad_1] Chennai Super Kings opening batter Ruturaj Gaikwad on Saturday said his team does not have any problem playing on any strip at the M A Chidambaram stadium because of the home advantage. CSK beat Mumbai Indians by six wickets in a crucial IPL match at Chepauk, hitting the required runs in 17.4 overs after restricting the opposition to just 139 for 8. Asked if this was the kind of pitch CSK would like to play, Gaikwad said, “It does suit our strength but the pitch is, I would say, slightly out of our control with the weather being slightly gloomy, rainy. Obviously it’s tough for the curator to make what we want. ‘Modi will only harm Pakistan, can’t expect anything good from him’: Shahid Afridi’s scathing attack on Indian PM

[ad_1] Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi launched a scathing attack on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his strict policies and said that ever since the Indian PM took office, nothing positive has come out for Pakistan, and neither can anything be expected in the future from the head of the Indian government. “Ever since Modi has come to power you can’t expect anything from him in Pakistan’s favour. As simple as that,” Afridi said on Samaa TV. “History speaks for itself. Earlier when BJP was in power, we had pretty good relationships with the previous prime ministers,” he added. The 46-year-old also said that he has zero expectations from PM Modi and the latter will only damage Pakistan’s image. “I am only talking about Modi. I have no expectations from him whatsoever,” he sai...

‘Impact Player rule leading to chase 200+ totals, more close finishes in the IPL’: Nehal Wadhera

[ad_1] Mumbai Indians (MI) on Wednesday pulled off a freak show as they chased down the fourth-highest total in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) in Mohali. Post their triumph over the hosts, MI’s young gun Nehal Wadhera revealed that the side has been practicing by forming two teams from their own squad and that has given them a major boost. “We are playing practice matches among ourselves by making two teams from the squad. Both the teams are posting 200+ consistently so a lot of confidence for these kinds of run chases is coming from those practice matches,” he said during the post-match conference. Wadhera said that it is the demonstration of the calibre of their batting lineup that they can chase down 200-p...

IPL 2023: Points shared between CSK and LSG after Badoni sparkles on a rainy day

[ad_1] It felt more like a home game for Chennai Super Kings – and it was not just due to the abundance of yellow in the stands to welcome MS Dhoni to the City of Nawabs. The venue also laid out the red carpet in the form of a pitch that played right down the visitor’s alley. The tacky surface was a great ally to the CSK spin trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Maheesh Theekshana, after giving the returning Deepak Chahar some swing with the new ball. It was only the weather that was the dampener with not even one innings allowed to be completed as the rain meant both teams had to be satisfied with a point each from the fixture. Small totals had been difficult to chase down in the last few games, and it would have been interesting to see how the CSK line-up would have countered the cha...

Erik Ten Hag says some United players did not give 100% against Spurs

[ad_1] Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said some of his players did not give 100% against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Thursday after they threw away a two-goal lead and drew 2-2. Goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford had put United 2-0 up at halftime but Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min struck in the second half to salvage a draw for Tottenham. Ten Hag said United’s hectic schedule was a factor but added that it cannot be used as an excuse for the draw, which kept them fourth on 60 points, two points behind Newcastle United, who have played a game more. “The time is enough to recover. Our players are in demand to be ready. Today we are not ready. Some thought 90% is enough. But we lose focus,” Ten Hag told reporters. The manager's verdict on tonight's game and t...

[ad_1] Olympic gold medallist swimmer Kyle Chalmers said he hopes that by speaking out about his struggles over mental health he can inspire the next generation to follow suit. Chalmers, who won Olympic 100 metres freestyle gold in Rio as a teenager and took silver in Tokyo in 2021, took a mental health break last year after a row about his decision to race at the world championships. Last month, triple Olympic breaststroke champion Adam Peaty, Chalmers’s friend, said he would skip the British swimming championships to focus on his mental health. Asked if his open discussions about mental health may have influenced other swimmers like Peaty, Chalmers told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph: “I’d like to hope so.” “I’ve had to step away from the pool a couple of times with mental health problems an...

IPL 2023: We need someone like Rahul Tewatia, David Miller who could finish the game, says Brian Lara

The Sunrisers’ coach reckons that their middle order is still a work in progress and that they need a batter who can finish the game off for them. “It’s a work in progress. We need to have guys who are thinking the game throughout right till the end,” said Lara during the post-match conference. “There are some great examples in the IPL. Tewatia, Miller, we do need that sort of person to understand how to calculate going down, who are the bowlers going to come and plan properly.
