Why is Delhi-NCR under a thick haze? IMD explains
After sudden gusty winds and an overnight dust surge Wednesday, much of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to a thick haze, with visibility plunging at many locations in the Capital, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Thursday.
Due to an incoming cloud mass reported Wednesday night, sudden gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour over the Palam area swept fine dust particles into the lower atmosphere. A senior IMD official said that visibility fell from 4,500 m to 1,200 metre in under two hours from 10 pm to 11.30 pm.
