The Delhi Police will begin proceedings to have Dubai-based Indian businessman and alleged drug kingpin Virendra Basoiya declared a proclaimed offender (PO) by a court. He is accused of running a cartel that smuggled 1,289 kg of cocaine into India, according to an official from the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. At least four more accused named in the case will also have PO declaration proceedings initiated against them, with some of them in direct touch with Basoiya, the officer said. Special Judge (NDPS) Sudhir Kumar Sirohi of the Patiala House Court in Delhi had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Basoiya following a series of cocaine seizures.
