India vs England: How Rohit Sharma survived edges, dropped catches, and DRS to compile one of his finest hundreds

Rohit Sharma dropped his bat down at the non-striker’s end during India’s nightmarish first hour as he seemingly couldn’t comprehend what was happening, and had to see the big screen replays to suss out if there was any devil on the pitch. Near the end of day’s play, he would fling his cap in frustration in the dressing room when Sarfaraz Khan, who revealed the true nature of the pitch with the jazziest knock of the day, was run out after a horrible mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja. In between these two moments with bat and the cap, he led India’s revival along with Jadeja and enjoyed Sarfaraz’s own version of Bazball as India recovered from 33 for 3 to end on 320 for 5.In the end, it was the oldest plan in the book that got him. Eye on Rohit Sharma: Batting clinic with Kuldeep, meditation with Rahul and applauding batsmen in the nets

With his ever-present 13-day stubble, Rohit Sharma stopped Kuldeep Yadav at the nets. It wasn’t about bowling, though; instead a long batting clinic was held, with Rohit often taking the left-hander’s stance and instructing Kuldeep, among other things, the bat flow. “Nah, na, utna high nahi, re (not that high)”, and he would shorten the bat-lift. Around their bubble, the Indian cricketers were moving around doing their training, two days before the vital third Test against England. Away from them, the administrators were busy setting up signages and arrangements for Wednesday’s naming ceremony – the stadium will be named after the long-standing administrator Niranjan Shah, an impish man with a mischievous smile. Once Kuldeep soaked up the nearly 20-minute tutorial, Rohit caught hold of ...

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh reckons the current team has not shown the fearlessness that one needs to win ICC titles and fielding four seamers in the World Test Championship final was a bit “too much”.Having come short in ICC knockout games on numerous occasions since winning their last trophy in 2013, India find themselves in a hole in the WTC final against Australia.Harbhajan, who is here as a commentator, observed the players become “too tight” in high pressure games and advised them not to worry about the results. “There is nothing lacking (in terms of skills).
