The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Thursday imposed a Rs 50 lakh penalty on a contractor for shoddy work in the ongoing mega road concretising project. The Mumbai civic body also slapped a Rs 25 lakh fine on the quality monitoring agency for the ongoing project, and suspended one of its engineers from the roads department, who was responsible for routine monitoring, citing negligence of work. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to shell out Rs 34.48 crore for carrying out pre- and post-monsoon work on multiple roads in the Bandra, Santacruz, Andheri, Goregaon, Borivali, and Dahisar areas in the western suburbs of Mumbai. The civic body on Wednesday floated six separate tenders to carry out the works that include repairing bad patches, filling potholes, and carrying out patchwork on the damaged portions of roads, by using asphalt and mastic. BMC slaps notice on hotel adjoining Digambar Jain Temple citing ‘unauthorised construction’

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday issued notices to the private hotel adjoining the Digambar Jain Temple at Vile Parle, parts of which were demolished last week. The civic body’s move came a day after BMC authorities carried out an inspection of the hotel premises. Civic officials said the notices were served under Section 53 (1) of the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP), 1966, for unauthorised construction.  Earlier, a notice under similar sections were issued to the temple trust, before the civic authorities carried out  demolition of the building. In a surprise move, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is mulling cancellation of its plan to construct a 5.6-km long elevated flyover that was supposed to connect Eastern Freeway (Orange Gate) at P D Mello Road with Grant Road in south Mumbai. Civic officials said the project is being cancelled since the alignment of the proposed flyover will be similar to that of an underground tunnel the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is constructing. The proposed 4.46-km tunnel will extend between Orange Gate and Marine Drive. Confirming the move with the Indian Express, Mumbai municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani said, “Yes, we are considering cancellation of the proposed flyover.
