When it comes to high fashion, Sonam Kapoor wins; always. As the first South Asian global ambassador for Christian Dior, the Bollywood actor attended the French luxury house’s show at the ongoing Paris Couture Week in a black mesh ensemble from their Spring/ Summer 2025 collection, pairing it with a maximalist faux fur coat from the Resort 2025 collection.
Pops of pink on her lips and cheeks, a smokey eye, and sharp contour sculpted her face. Pearl chain earrings along with statement ear cuffs were her choice of accessories, while a neatly pulled-back bun adorned with a handcrafted bespoke kaala gajra from Diaries of Nomad added the right amount of drama to her look.
Harshita Gautam, founder of Diaries of Nomad, told indianexpress.com that Sonam’s stylist and sister, Rhea Kapoor, reached out to her with the request for a black gajra. “At first, you know, I found it very amusing – who wears black flowers in the hair?” mused the designer.
Walking us through the process of making the hair piece, she shared, “We took shankis, or shells, and covered it with handwoven chanderi. We made about 350 of those and tucked them on a silk rope, dhuri, and used motis to connect them. Ten ladies were engaged in making something like this over four days.”
Furthering their Indian connect, Christian Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri also commissioned artist Rithika Merchant to create an immersive installation, ‘The Flowers We Grew’, honoring the powerful women in her family. The textile panels and paintings were embroidered under the direction of Karishma Swali by the Chanakya School of Craft and were unveiled during the Dior défilé in the garden of Musée Rodin.
