Mohammed Shariful Islam Fakir, 30, the Bangladeshi national arrested for attacking actor Saif Ali Khan on January 16 at his Bandra house during a failed robbery attempt, watched a YouTube video on the Railway Protection Force (RPF) catching the wrong suspect in the case from Chhattisgarh’s Durg.

According to the chargesheet recently filed by Bandra police in connection with the attack on Saif, the police learnt this when they scanned Fakir’s mobile phone. He allegedly watched a YouTube report titled ‘Durg se Pakda Gaya Sandigdh’, the police said, adding that they have taken a screenshot of the video.

Various other items were allegedly found on Fakir’s phone, according to the police. These included photos of his nationality certificate and character certificate in Bengali, election ID card, his Bangladeshi relatives and friends and two cheques, and screenshots of various transactions he has made, including the payment made to one Abdul Alim by Vijay Das, the fake name Fakir allegedly adopted.

The police have also found a selfie of Fakir with a woman from his phone. Besides this, screenshots of his Facebook profile have also been secured under the panchnama.

The police said they roped in a Fort-based translation firm in Mumbai and got the Bangladeshi documents found on Fakir’s phone translated into English and established that he is a Bangladeshi national.

Bought knives, tools from Dadar, Chembur

As per the police chargesheet, the clothes Fakir wore during the alleged crime were found at Waghbil village in Thane along with a stern hammer, a plier, a tester and a black sack on January 21. The next day, when Fakir allegedly showed the police the place in Bandra where he dumped some articles, the police seized a knife, a half-broken knife, a knife with a wooden handle, three testers, and a gamcha (a piece of cloth) from near Bandra lake. He also allegedly showed the police the stores in Dadar and Chembur from where he had brought knives and tools.

The police also seized the pair of shoes that Fakir was allegedly wearing at the time of escaping from Saif’s building after the crime from a Worli Koliwada house where he temporarily stayed. He allegedly told the police that he had kept the shoes in his bag before the robbery attempt.
