NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday alleged that BJP has set a “pattern of encounters” and reffered to the deaths of crime suspects in police shootouts as “fake”.
Akhilesh Yadav outlined the alleged pattern in a post on X, stating, “A pattern of encounters has been set in BJP rule: Pick someone first, then make up a story of a fake encounter, then show fake pictures to the world, then after the murder, when the family members tell the truth, pressurize them with various kinds of pressure and temptations, protect the top leadership by bringing forward its second-rate leaders when exposed by opposition political parties.”
He further accused the BJP of using media propaganda, getting their leaders to justify the encounters, and defaming genuine media outlets. The Samajwadi Party supremo claimed that when public anger escalates, the matter is buried through superficial investigations.
“The more the BJP with its forces try to prove such encounters to be true, the bigger lie that encounter actually is. BJP has encountered the truth itself,” the SP chief alleged.
Akhilesh’s latest criticism comes in the backdrop of the recent death of Mangesh Yadav, a suspect in a jewelry store robbery, who was killed in an alleged gunfight with the police. The SP chief had previously termed this encounter as “fake” and claimed it was based on the accused’s caste.
However, UP Director General of Police Prashant Kumar denied these allegations on Monday, asserting that the state police do not practice partiality and take action impartially.
