The Directorate of Medical Education and Training in Uttar Pradesh has disqualified over 350 candidates from participating in the upcoming NEET PG and UG counselling sessions. This decision comes after these candidates failed to meet specific requirements in the previous academic sessions.
According to a letter from the Directorate of Medical Education, the candidates who did not take up their assigned seats in 2023 are being prohibited from participating in the NEET PG 2024-25 counselling session. The decision aims to discourage the misuse of available seats and ensure that candidates understand the importance of participating in the counselling process responsibly.
The directive also highlighted that these candidates were allotted seats in various government and private medical colleges across different districts of Uttar Pradesh in October and November of the previous year. “If they do not take the seat, it often remains vacant for the year,” stated an official from the Directorate. The government’s move is intended to prevent such wastage of valuable seats and ensure that all available positions are filled by deserving candidates.
Stray vacancy round during NEET PG counselling 2023
In the NEET PG-2023 stray vacancy round, a total of 81 candidates were allotted MD/MS seats in various government and private medical colleges across the state. The stray vacancy round serves as the last opportunity for securing a seat in postgraduate courses, as it includes any leftover seats that are available to all eligible candidates. However, these 81 candidates did not take admission on the seats allotted to them. According to the government order issued on September 21, 2023, candidates who fail to take admission on seats allocated during the stray vacancy round will not only forfeit their security deposit but will also be barred from participating in the NEET PG 2024-25 counselling.
Document verification issues led to UG disqualifications
In addition to the 81 barred PG candidates, 276 NEET UG candidates have been disqualified from the second round of NEET-UG-2024 counselling. This decision was made due to discrepancies in the documents they submitted during the counselling process. The rejected documents included cases where candidates could not provide certificates supporting the quota claims made during their online registration, and instances where there were discrepancies in the candidate names on the documents compared to their registration details.
The disqualified candidates were named by the Directorate of Medical Education and Training, which oversees the counselling for MBBS and BDS seats in both government and private colleges within the state. The UG counselling process is already underway, while the PG counselling session is scheduled to commence on September 23.

Counselling rules and regulations
As per the latest government order issued on September 21, 2023, candidates must adhere to strict rules during the counselling process. Failure to take admission after seat allocation, particularly in the stray vacancy round, will lead to a loss of security deposit and disqualification from participating in the following year’s counselling session. This rule applies to both undergraduate and postgraduate candidates.
