The Mumbai Police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly murdering a married woman at her Vikhroli residence on Monday night. The accused, Hanafa Shah, slit Suman Surajlal’s (37) throat at her residence after she was asking him to marry her.
An officer said that Suman resided in Vikhroli (east) with her husband Surajlal Matapher who worked as a security guard. Both of them had earlier marriages and this was their second marriage.
Suman worked at a leather bag making unit at Dharavi where she met Shah who resided in Dharavi. Shah was unmarried.
The duo became friends and soon started having an affair. When her husband left home late in the evening for his work as a security guard, Shah would go to her residence.
While both Suman and her husband had children from their first marriages, the children didn’t stay with them.
Over the past few weeks, Suman had started asking Shah to marry her, something he kept refusing. Eventually she gave him an ultimatum and on Monday night they had a fight over the issue.
The accused in a fit of rage overpowered her, tied her limbs, slit her throat and fled from the spot.
