Schools in Maharashtra are set to reopen after summer vacations on Monday with the state government deciding to mark the occasion as a festival. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and senior government officials, will visit government-run schools and greet students.

The initiative is also aimed at boosting student enrolment in government-run schools. During these visits, parents and community members will be informed about the various facilities offered in these schools, such as the free distribution of uniforms and textbooks, provision of midday meals, and other student benefits. The goal is to position government schools as a viable and cost-effective option for quality education across Maharashtra.

All schools in the state will resume after the summer break on Monday, except those in Vidarbha, where the academic year will commence on June 23. According to the School Education Department, a list of 473 public representatives and 205 officials has been prepared for school visits on the first day. Each of them has been provided with brochures detailing the state’s educational schemes, particularly those benefitting students in government schools. To document these visits, cluster-level education officers have been given access to a school-wise link at the taluka level. They have been instructed to submit a brief report for each visit through this platform.

Senior officials such as Secretaries have been requested to hold discussions with parents during these inaugural programs. Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, IA Kundan has appealed to government officers to adopt schools and contribute toward improving the quality of education in the state-run schools. “These visits will help foster a positive outlook toward education among the community, parents, students, and teachers,” she said.
