The student registration process for First-Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions in Maharashtra was stalled on Wednesday as the education department’s website suffered a technical snag, leading to it being closed.
This is the first year that the online Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for FYJC admissions is being held across the state.
On Wednesday, as candidates started sharing images of an unresponsive website, the office of the director of education (secondary), which conducts the process, informed that it was closed to make it convenient to use on mobile phones, and that students would be updated when it became functional again.
However, according to officials from the department, the website https://mahafyjcadmissions.in/landing suffered a technical snag and repair work is underway.
“It is unfair to call it a technical issue now on day one of the registration. As the centralised system now caters to FYJC admissions across the state, the number of users to access the website was certainly going to increase to a large extent,” said a parent.
The FYJC admission process is scheduled to be held from May 21 to May 28. The website was opened for a two-day practice session on Monday so that students could understand the system. “The two-day practice session was conducted without a glitch. But on Wednesday, the website faced technical issues with multiple users trying to access it on day one, which also burdened the payment getaway,” an official said.
“The technical service provider is working to repair the problem,” the official added, urging students and parents not to panic as there were enough days to complete the registration process.

Until last year, the Online CAP for FYJC admissions was limited to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune-Pimpri Chinchwad, Nagpur, Nashik, and Amravati. According to parents, as the system is now extended for use in the entire state, its technical aspects should have been taken into consideration.
Many of them also complained that there was no clear communication from the office on why the website was not working. “Many are unaware of the WhatsApp channel where an update was given that website was closed to make it mobile-friendly. Ideally, all this should have been done before they launched the website,” said another parent.
