A tragic accident in the Brell Waterhail area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has resulted in the deaths of three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, with 32 others suffering injuries after their bus, engaged in election duty, slipped down a hilly road and fell into a gorge. Six of the 35 BSF personnel travelling in the bus sustained serious injuries, as reported by news agency ANI.

In addition to the injured BSF personnel, a civilian driver also suffered injuries in the incident. According to PTI, over a dozen BSF troopers were injured when the bus, which was carrying them for election duty in the second phase of assembly polls, met with the accident near Brel of Watarhaal. The officials stated that some of the injured jawans are in critical condition and have been rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

Jammu And Kashmir Election 2024
This incident occurred against the backdrop of the long-awaited elections in Jammu and Kashmir, where voting is being held in three phases for the 90 assembly seats. The first phase took place on September 18 for 24 assembly seats, while the second phase is scheduled for September 25, 2024, covering 26 assembly seats. The third and final phase will take place on October 1 for the remaining 40 seats.
The Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF) and BSF companies have started reaching Rajouri, where polling in five Assembly constituencies will be held in the second phase on September 25.

Furthermore, the Election Commission of India recently announced a change in the date for the announcement of election results, which will now be declared on October 8 instead of the previously scheduled October 4.
