India China US Tariffs: India and China should stand together to overcome difficulties in the face of tariffs imposed by US president Donald Trump’s administration, the spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in India said on Tuesday.
“China-India economic and trade relationship is based on complimentarity and mutual benefit. Facing the US abuse of tariffs … the two largest developing countries should stand together to overcome the difficulties,” spokesperson Yu Jing said in a post on X.
“Trade and tariff wars have no winners. All countries should uphold the principles of extensive consultation, practice true multilateralism, jointly oppose all forms of unilateralism and protectionism.”
China’s economy is underpinned by a system that ensures steady growth, and produces positive spillovers. Chinese manufacturing is built on a complete and continually upgrading industrial system, sustained investment in R&D, and a strong focus on innovation.

This comes after Beijing on Tuesday reiterated its determination to hold firm against Trump’s market-hammering announcement of tariffs on countries across the world.
“The US threat to escalate tariffs on China is a mistake on top of a mistake. The threat once again exposes the blackmailing nature of the US. China will never accept it. If the US insists on its own way, China will fight to the end,” China’s Commerce Ministry said in a statement.
India has largely maintained a studied silence for the better part of the last 48 hours, issuing only a bare-bones statement saying it was examining the American tariff order. Since then, responses have been piecemeal, with individual ministries downplaying the likely impact on their respective sectors and attempting to project calm amid rising global concern.
Privately, however, officials have indicated that New Delhi has chosen to pursue negotiations rather than adopt a “retaliatory approach.”
