The Hathras police in Uttar Pradesh inaugurated 24-hour free computer facilitation centres for women in all police stations of the district on Saturday.
“This is an innovation by the Hathras police in the sequence of Mission Shakti Yojana under Operation Jagriti 4.0,” said Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, Superintendent of Police, Hathras.
Sinha said girls and women of all ages can use the centres to fill up forms and to apply for several social schemes of the government.
“We aim to provide maximum benefit of the centres, especially to students from weaker sections and women in rural areas. The students will not only get to use the centres for free but will also be assisted by the officials,” Sinha added.
“Most of the applications for various jobs and competitive exams are made online nowadays. Girl students have to go to cyber cafes, and Hathras being a rural area… such cyber cafes are very less. Girls… not only have to pay user fees but also have to wait for a long time,” Sinha told The Indian Express.
“All the computer facilitation centres have been equipped with computers, heavy-duty printers with scanners and high-speed fibre internet connection. Where students, girls and women can apply online for various government jobs and competitive examinations… and can also take free printouts as per their need. If they face any difficulty in applying, then technical support will be provided to them by the computer operator and a computer-savvy woman employee appointed at the police station,” said the Hathras SP.
“We do not have to pay anything to fill forms or get our passport-size photos,” said Yukti Kashyap, a Class 10 student present at the launch event. She said the computer facilitation centres will allow them to access the internet within a safe environment.
