Heavy Rain in Gujarat: Monsoon rains have brought devastation in Gujarat this year. Heavy rain caused floods in many districts of the state, bringing normal life to a standstill. So far, 49 people have died in rain-related incidents in the state. Along with this, crops also suffered heavy damage in many districts, such as Porbandar, Junagadh, Kutch, Jamnagar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Junagadh.
The floods have wreaked havoc bringing down roads and other infrastructure in many places. Due to heavy rain in Vadodara and other places, houses suffered damage. Traders, shopkeepers, and industries have also been hit. According to the Meteorological Department, Gujarat received 118% of the season’s rainfall till Wednesday.

49 Dead In Rain-Related Incidents
The highest rainfall of 180% was recorded in Kutch whereas, the lowest rainfall of 94% was recorded in North Gujarat. According to the Meteorological Department, many areas of Gujarat saw heavy downpours from August 25 to 30. During this period, many people got struck by lightning, came under wall-collapse debris, and drowned. The total casualty now stands at 49.
Out of this, the families of 22 victims have been paid Rs 4 lakh each as compensation. Meanwhile, 2,618 animals also died during this period. Their owners have been given an amount of Rs 1.78 lakh as compensation.
More Than 42,000 Evacuated To Safety
In the wake of the tragedy caused by the heavy monsoon rains, 17 teams of NDRF, 27 teams of SDRF and 9 army units have been deployed in the state, apart from Air Force and Coast Guard teams. So far, they have rescued more than 37,000 people, who were directly affected by the rain and floods. As many as 42,083 people moved to safer places. Fifty-three people were airlifted to safety.
