An explosion occurred outside a house in Chandigarh on Wednesday evening. The blast occurred after unidentified miscreants, arriving in an auto-rickshaw, hurled an explosive at a house and fled.

The attack happened in the Sector 10 area of the city in a posh residential area of the Union Territory. The blast shattered the windows, causing damage to the house. There were no reported injuries immediately after the incident.

The entire incident was captured in a CCTV camera. A picture is going rounds on the internet showing two suspects believed to have carried out the attack.

As per ABP News sources, the target of the grenade attack was a former Superintendent of Police (SP) of Punjab Police. The former SP escaped unhurt as he had already switched homes ahead of the attack.

Chandigarh Police said that an information was received that a blast-like sound was heard in House No 575 in Sector 10 of Chandigarh.

After receiving information about the blast around 5:30 pm, Chandigarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur and other police officials reached the house to take stock of the situation.

According to Chandigarh SSP, a small pressure-type blast took place in the bungalow due to which windows and flower pots were damaged.

“There was a loud sound. Some pressure type low-intensity blast took place because of which some windows and pots were damaged,” the SSP said, according to PTI.

The SSP further said the complainant told them that two persons came in an auto-rickshaw and hurled a grenade at the house. The complainants were sitting on their verandah of the house. They saw the suspects, the police officer said, adding efforts were on to trace the vehicle.

The sources said that wanted terrorist Harwinder Singh Rinda is suspected to be behind the attack. Rinda is currently in Pakistan.

Teams of the bomb detection squad and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory also reached the spot to collect samples. Meanwhile, teams of CSFL and Anti-Gangster Task Force have carried out an investigation at the spot where the explosion took place.
