Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde received a resounding show of support at an event in Mumbai organised under the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana. Women attending the programme were seen enthusiastically raising slogans in his favour.

As an anchor posed the question, “Maharashtra ka CM kaisa ho?” (Who should Maharashtra’s Chief Minister be like?), the women responded in unison, “Shinde sahib jaisa ho” (Like Shinde sahib). The Chief Minister was clicking selfies with attendees as the slogans were raised, a video shared by news agency ANI showed.

Addressing the gathering, Shinde said, “I am with you all, I thank all Majhi Ladki Bahin for electing me. You all chose Mahayuti, as we promised we will be giving Rs 2,100 to all my sisters. This government is yours, and you should choose this government again. I feel blessed you all came here and gave me blessings. This is a common people’s government, and we are working for the growth of Maharashtra”, ANI reported.

The event comes as suspense continues over the Mahayuti coalition’s choice for the Chief Minister’s post. With the alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, registering a landslide victory in the state elections, Shinde had noted that no fixed formula had been decided for the selection of the Chief Minister.

“At this time, no definitive formula has been established. Senior leaders from the three parties, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP’s national president J P Nadda, will discuss and decide the matter,” Shinde said on Saturday, as quoted by news agency PTI.

Acknowledging the voting trends favouring the Mahayuti, Shinde attributed the success to the coalition’s developmental initiatives, particularly the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, which provides Rs 1,500 to eligible women. He referred to the scheme as a “game changer” in the elections.

“I thank all my ladki bahins (dear sisters) in the state and the brothers who voted in large numbers for us. The voting trend is an endorsement of our work. Every section of society voted for us because of our development efforts. The public has noticed our work and responded through their ballots,” Shinde said, adding that the election outcome increases their responsibility to serve the people.

Meanwhile, BJP legislator Pravin Darekar demanded that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis be appointed the next Chief Minister, asserting that the party with the highest number of seats should secure the post.

Shinde expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah for their support and lauded the contributions of party workers from the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP. He also took a dig at the opposition, saying, “The opposition parties wasted time abusing us while we continued working, and the people responded positively to our administration.”

The Chief Minister also noted the uncertainty about whether an official leader of the opposition would emerge, given the apparent landslide victory.
