Delhi News, JNUSU Election Voting Live Updates: Voting for the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students’ union election commenced at 9 am on Friday morning, with 13 presidential candidates in fray. The JNUSU election polling is being held in two sessions: 9 am to 1 pm, and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Counting will begin the same night, and results are expected by April 28. A total of 7,906 students are eligible to vote – 57 per cent male and 43 per cent female. The presidential debate took place on Wednesday, April 23, with each of the 13 candidates allotted 10 minutes to speak.

Pahalgam attack key focus in JNUSU polls: The presidential debate for JNUSU election began at 11:30 pm on Wednesday and stretched into the early hours of Thursday, concluding around 4 am. The debate began with a 2-minute silence to pay respects to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. ABVP raised chants of “Kashmir hamara hai” and “Hindu lives matter”, while the party’s presidential candidate Shikha Swaraj said, “To those who say terrorism has no religion — were the victims not asked their faith before being killed.”

High-security alert in Delhi: The high-alert in Delhi continued for the third straight day after the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives on Tuesday evening. Security has been further beefed up in central Delhi and around the Pakistan High Commission after protests broke out in the area on Thursday. A group of people surrounded the High Commission building and chanted anti-Pakistan slogans, after which they were removed from the area. The protests later continued on the Teen Murti Marg, after which security was heightened in the area.
