“The son of the deceased said today…(at) 10-10.30 am, a fight broke out over a minor issue between the neighour and his family members,” said DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam.

Police said that an FIR was registered against the four men under BNS sections 105 (culpable homicide), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and 3(5) (common intention).

According to the victim’s daughter, the neighbours had asked her father for a loan around a week back, but he had refused to give the money. “They asked for around Rs 1 lakh, but my father was unwilling to give the money… They kept harassing my father to give them the money and confronted him today…when he refused again, they began beating him. Hearing the commotion, my brother went out to rescue my father, but they beat him up as well,” she alleged. Police said that the victim was a moneylender.

CCTV footage shows the 67-year-old leaving home on Friday morning when he is approached first by a man in a red T-shirt, who is then joined by three others. A heated conversation ensues, and one of the men pushes Gupta, causing a furore. Gupta is jostled around by the men before a small crowd gathers, trying to intervene in the scuffle.
