Delhi cab driver dies as his car catches fire near Bijwasan flyover

A 42-year-old cab driver died after his car caught fire near the Bijwasan flyover in South West Delhi on Monday night, trapping him inside.

The deceased has been identified as Sandeep, a resident of Palam Vihar in Gurgaon, who was running a taxi transport business in R K Puram in South West Delhi, the police said.

According to the police, the incident was reported at Kapashera area around 10.30 pm while Sandeep was returning home after work.

“On local enquiry from passersby, it was revealed that the car was going from Bijwasan flyover toward Dwarka-Expressway when the running car suddenly caught fire and the driver could not come out,” said Surendra Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West.

The fire brigade managed to bring the fire under control and the officials contacted the family of the deceased using the vehicle’s registration number, the police said.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to the scene for further examination, and the body was shifted to a mortuary. The police stated that further investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
