No Comments Sheena Bora case: How the case played out over the last seven years
The Supreme Court’s order on Wednesday granting bail to former media executive Indrani Mukerjea comes nearly seven years after she was arrested by the Mumbai police in 2015 in connection with the alleged murder of her daughter, Sheena Bora. The trial in the case was stalled for over a year after the special judge presiding over the case was moved during the annual general transfers. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic also led to the stalling of the case. With a new judge appointed in the case last month, the trial is expected to resume soon.
Mukerjea’s lawyer Sana Raees Khan said that the bail formalities will be initiated on Thursday and if completed, she is likely to be released on Friday from Byculla jail. As per her bail conditions, she will have to regularly attend the trial.

The Delhi Police Wednesday detained Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kuldeep Kumar during a demolition drive in Kalyanpuri for allegedly obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duty.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) said it was carrying out the exercise to reclaim its property.
It said the demolition was carried out in Khichripur on DDA land, measuring around two hectares. The land has been under encroachment for a long time, and the exercise was carried out under the directions of the Delhi High Court, which had directed the agency to take possession of the land forthwith, the DDA said in a press statement.

The Delhi High Court Wednesday pulled up the Delhi Development Authority for granting permission to the Raisina Bengali School Society for mortgaging the school plot which is a leasehold land allotted only for the purpose of running the school. The court also said it hopes and expects the Delhi government to complete the process of the takeover of the debt-ridden Raisina Bengali School in the next two months.
“It’s no answer for DDA to take that the permission to mortgage the property was granted with the condition that the user of the plot could not be changed even … in the eventuality of the mortgage being enforced and the property being sold,” said the division bench of acting Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Sachin Datta.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Wednesday reviewed the detailed project report (DPR) for a metro extension project for the proposed route connecting Palam Vihar in Gurgaon to Dwarka sector 21 in Delhi, and gave directions to study the feasibility of taking the last 1.5 km stretch of the line in Delhi underground. The CM sought a report in 15 days and said a revised DPR will be prepared after the submission of the report.
The report, prepared by Rail India Technical and Economic Service Limited (RITES), estimates the cost of the project at Rs 2,281 crore. A presentation was given by RITES officials to Khattar in Gurgaon. The project will be implemented by Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation.

From today, citizens visiting Dadar market can access a digitised valet parking facility. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, a valet will park the visitor’s car at the nearby civic body-run Kohinoor Parking facility, which can accommodate 1,100 cars.
The initiative is the outcome of a collaboration between the Mumbai civic body, traffic police and a traders’ body in Dadar.

The Mumbai police have arrested the former chief executive officer (CEO) of City Cooperative Bank for allegedly causing a loss of around Rs 96 crore to the bank by sanctioning credit to ineligible people and companies.
Along with the former CEO Ramesh Shirgaonkar (79), the police also arrested a businessman Rajan Sawant (41) who allegedly connived with him. According to the police, Sawant provided fake documents and availed credit worth Rs 11 crore from the bank.
An officer said that they suspect Shirgaonkar to have fraudulently disbursed loans to 56 people without having followed due procedure in allotting these. In the case of Sawant, Shirgaonkar allegedly did not conduct a proper inspection of his outstanding loans before providing the credit facility.

No Comments Precaution doses constitute 50% of Covid-19 vaccination in Delhi, uptake among children drops
As Delhi reached saturation on Covid-19 vaccination across age groups, excluding children of the age group 12-14, precaution doses continue to be the most commonly administered at vaccination centres in the capital. Of the 29,257 doses given across Delhi on Tuesday, 14,889 or 50 per cent were precaution doses, as per data from the government’s CoWIN portal.
For the first time, the number of precaution doses crossed all other categories during the second week of May after the doses were made free by the Delhi government for all age groups. Even as the precaution doses increased by around 40,000 a week at present from around 20,000 at the beginning of April, the rise is offset by the declining number of total doses given in the capital.

Poonam Hooda, SHO, Sushant Lok police station, said, “As per the autopsy, the two had committed suicide by hanging. The bodies of the victims were handed over to their families after the post-mortem. The respective families have not filed any complaints. An inquest report has been filed under CrPC section 174.”

The West Bengal government on Tuesday admitted in the Calcutta High Court that the police raid at the residence of now-deceased student leader Anish Khan on February 18 was not conducted with a proper legal procedure.
State advocate general Soumendranath Mukhopadhyay urged the division bench of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha that the police personnel concerned deserved punishment since there were lapses in the legal procedure in conducting the raid.
