DU’s Hindu College professor arrested for post on ‘Shivling’

DAYS AFTER an FIR was filed against him, a 50-year-old associate professor from Delhi University’s Hindu College has been arrested in connection with an allegedly objectionable social media post referring to claims of a Shivling being found at the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi. According to police, Professor Ratan Lal, who teaches history, had allegedly posted a photo of the structure and made objectionable comments on Tuesday. The Ministry of Home Affairs Friday issued a notification declaring IAS officer Ashwani Kumar of AGMUT cadre, 1992 batch, as the first special officer of the unified Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) that will come into force from Sunday. The present South MCD Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti has been appointed as the commissioner of the unified MCD. Bharti is a 1998-batch AGMUT IAS officer. The family members of Rolly Prajapati, a six-year-old girl from Noida who died due to a gunshot wound on April 27, donated her organs, making her the youngest such donor at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the doctors said. “The family took her to a nearby hospital on April 27 and from there she was brought around midnight to the AIIMS trauma centre. Mumbai’s pollution levels continued to be high for the second consecutive day on Friday with the city recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 286, a meagre drop in levels after recording an AQI of 309 on Thursday. State to raise loan worth Rs 2,000 crore to fund development projects

The state Finance Department has decided to raise a loan of Rs 2,000 crore to fund the developmental programmes of the state. The government stock, up to 10 per cent of the notified amount of the sale, will be alloted to eligible individuals and institutions subject to 1 per cent of the notified amount for a single bid. From May 1, 1960, the state has raised loans worth Rs 3,55,612 crore, of which Rs 2,89,427 crore is outstanding. A press note issued by the Finance Department says that as per the recommendation of the10th Finance Commission, the state has constituted a consolidated sinking fund from 1999-2000 for redemption of debt arising from open market borrowing.
