Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal shared a heartfelt note for two Punjab police personnel who saved his life during an assassination bid on him at the Golden Temple.

A former Khalistani terrorist, Narain Singh Chaura fired at Badal from close range on Wednesday but the shot missed as plainclothes policemen overpowered the perpetrator.

The former Punjab deputy chief minister shared photos of Assistant Sub-Inspectors Jasbir Singh and Hira Singh, who are part of his security detail. In the photo, Badal hugged the two security personnel and lauded their courage.

“Risking your life to save someone’s life is not an easy thing. ASI Jasbir Singh and ASI Hira Singh have both been a part of our family from the time of Parkash Singh Ji Badal,” he said in the post on X.

“My family and I cannot repay the courage and loyalty shown by them yesterday. May God bless them with a long life, good health and all happiness,” he added.

ASI Jasbir Singh sensed the threat to the Akali leader and pounced on the shooter. He grabbed his hands and pushed him after which the attacker was overpowered with the help of other security personnel.

The attacker was sent to three days in police remand by a court in Amritsar on Thursday. The police had demanded a seven-day remand but the court granted three days, according to PTI.

He will be produced again before the court on December 8. A defence counsel said Chaura has been booked under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Arms Act.

While seeking remand, police said they wanted to find out from where Chaura procured the weapon used in the crime. The cops also said they wanted to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
