Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh seems to agree with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations that Mangesh Yadav’s encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur was “staged”. The former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president, however, dismissed the Kannauj MP’s claim that Yadav was killed “because of his caste”, and said people from Brahmins, Thakurs and Bhumihars casts are also being prosecuted.
“Encounters are being done to seek promotions and money. This is not the right way. There are no mafias left anywhere. Akhilesh Yadav’s allegation that only people of a particular caste are being killed in encounters is not correct. Police action is also happening against Brahmins, Thakurs and Bhumihars,” Brij Bhushan Singh said in an exclusive interview to ABP news.
On UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s bulldozer policy, the BJP leader said, “I have always been against it. It will not benefit anyone.’
The former MP also talked about BJP’s performance in UP during the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections and claimed he had foreseen the loss of seats for the saffron party. “I already knew this result. If I open my mouth, a storm will arise. Mistakes have been made. That is why we have lost. The officials are also involved in this. But they can’t be held accountable. They don’t care whether the party wins or loses.”
Singh, against whom wrestlers had levelled sexual harassment allegations, accused Olympians Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia of hatching a conspiracy against him at Congress’s behest. He said Phogat and Punia’s Congress membership has “exposed their true intentions”.
