A day after a full emergency was declared at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) for IndiGo flight 6E 5324 from Jaipur to Mumbai to land, following discovery of a note with bomb threat, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed Tuesday against an unknown individual for creating panic onboard.
According to the FIR lodged by flight attendant Bhumika Joshi, she found a letter with the threat while on duty mid-air in the plane’s galley. “I saw a letter on the table top. I opened the letter and it read, ‘Open it. Surprise. Bomb is waiting for you guys. Not a joke’,” Joshi stated. She immediately reported it to a senior crew member who, in turn, informed the pilot.
As part of protocol, the crew also searched and screened the passengers’ bags but found nothing suspicious.
The pilot subsequently alerted the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and the plane landed safely at Mumbai airport. CSMIA officials said the IndiGo flight landed safely at 8.50 pm on Monday after the airport authorities announced a full emergency at 8.43 pm.
“When it landed in Mumbai, the plane was taken to an isolation bay according to security agency guidelines and the crew adhered to all standard operating procedures,” IndiGo airlines said in an official statement. All passengers were safely disembarked, and a detailed examination of the plane was done.
A CSMIA spokesperson confirmed that airport operations were not affected due to the emergency. “The safety of passengers and employees is our number one concern,” the spokesperson said.
