Mohammad Rihan was allegedly on his way on April 22 to deliver arms to members of the Hashim Baba gang in Delhi. But he did not know that his movement was being tracked by police. A trap was laid in Rohini’s Sector 24, and he was arrested. With his arrest, police said, they busted the arms syndicate supplying weapons to the gang.
Rihan, said police, used to work at a private hospital and hails from Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh. He bought his supplies from a man identified as Salman in East Delhi’s Jaffrabad. “After coming in contact with Salman, he left his job and started supplying illegal weapons to the members of the Hashim Baba gang in Delhi-NCR,” DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora said.
Following his arrest, a raid was conducted in Jaffrabad, and Salman was arrested the same day.
During the questioning, Salman, a Class 8 dropout and a native of Jaffrabad, revealed that he used to have a handicraft business. “He had a business of handicraft items. But two years ago, he suffered a huge loss in business. He came in contact with his cousin Nadeem and started supplying illegal firearms,” DCP Indora said.
While two semi-automatic, sophisticated pistols were recovered from Rihan, police are now trying to trace Nadeem members of the Hashim Baba gang who were purchasing these weapons.
