The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Delhi Government Tuesday again summoned former AAP minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the alleged corruption to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore in the construction of classrooms in government schools when the party was in power.
Sisodia was summoned on June 3, and had to appear before ACB officials on June 9, but he could not do so, citing prior engagements. ACB has now asked him to appear on June 20.
On Monday, after the Aam Aadmi Party leader’s counsel said he would file a reply via email, ACB officials said that once he does so, they will see whether a summons will be issued again.
On April 30, ACB registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Sisodia and Satyendar Jain over alleged corruption in the construction of classrooms. While Sisodia held the finance and education portfolios, Jain had charge of the Public Works Department, which was the agency at the helm of the construction work, sources said.
Officials said the alleged scam, which is to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore, pertains to the construction of 12,748 classrooms or semi-permanent structures during the tenure of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.
Madhur Verma, Head, ACB, earlier confirmed the FIR’s registration.
Officials said the project was reportedly awarded to some contractors associated with the AAP, and significant deviations and cost escalations were observed. They added that the consultant and architect for the project were appointed without following due procedure, and cost escalations were carried out through them.
