The police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj said Sunday they arrested eight men for allegedly gang raping a 16-year-old girl while she was sitting in a field near a canal with her fiancé.
According to the Kasganj police, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against 10 men under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections of gang-rape, extortion, and criminal intimidation.
“A woman was sitting with her fiance at a canal in the field when some people on finding them alone raped her. They also snatched some money from her fiancé,” said Ankita Sharma, Superintendent of Police, Kasganj.
The Kasganj police said five of the men were arrested Saturday, and three Sunday for allegedly raping the girl at around 2.30 pm on April 10.
“A joint team of the Crime Branch and several teams of the Kasganj police arrested eight men so far, and two are still absconding. Soon, they will be arrested,” said Rajesh Kumar Bhartiya, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kasganj.
In her complaint to the police, the girl said the men came to the spot in motorcycles, and started commenting at them. “They then took me to a secluded area and raped me,” she said in her complaint.
