Dale Steyn predicts England will beat India 3-2 in Test series

After watching South Africa win the World Test Championship against Australia, former Proteas pacer Dale Steyn had a bold prediction to offer for the Indian cricket team’s five-Test tour of England. He said that all five Tests would yield results rather than ending in draws with India losing out by a bare minimum — a 2-3 final scoreline. When asked for his prediction for the India vs England series, Steyn told JioHotstar, “All games will be close. But all will have a result. I think it will be 3-2 in favour of England. There will be a result in every Test match. There will be no run away win for any team, all five games will be very close.” England, under coach Brendon McCullum at home, have a record that certainly backs that prediction: in the 20 matches England have played under McCull...

‘Unable to find a direct flight, London-based family opted for Air India flight from Ahmedabad’

It was meant to be a fun-filled homecoming for Eid. Instead, it ended in heartbreak for the Syed family. Javed Ali Syed, a UK-based hotel manager originally from Malad in Mumbai, had flown down with his wife Mariam and their two young children, four-year-old Zayn and six-year-old Amani, at the beginning of the month to celebrate Eid al-Adha with family and to be by his ailing mother’s side. With no direct flight tickets available from Mumbai for their return journey to London, the family opted for a flight from Ahmedabad. That detour, however, proved fatal. Air India flight AI 171 they had boarded crashed shortly after takeoff two days ago, killing Javed, Mariam, and their two children, two of the youngest victims of the tragedy. Javed, a former resident of Malad, had moved to the UK a dec...

‘Best innings any South African batter has ever played in Test match cricket’: Kevin Pietersen lauds Aiden Markram’s knock in WTC final

Aiden Markram’s match-winning century against Australia in the World Test Championship match was hailed as one of the best innings by a South African batter in Tests by former England player Kevin Pietersen. Markram slammed 136 runs off 207 balls in the 4th innings and stitched a rock-solid partnership with captain Temba Bavuma helping the Proteas to a 5-wicket win over Australia on Saturday. “Probably the best innings any South African batter has ever played in Test match cricket. It might not go down as the most attacking or entertaining if you look back at South Africa’s Test history — but when you factor in the expectation, the stage, and the pressure after failing in the first innings, it was extraordinary,” Pietersen said on JioHotstar. “Whether you’re a batter or a bowler, when your...

Remarkable achievement: This triumph was a tribute to what Bavuma and his lead stars, like centurion Markram, achieved.  | Photo Credit: AP It was a March night at Mirpur on the outskirts of Dhaka. Graeme Smith faced the media with moist eyes. The first question, more a statement, was brutal: “They used to call you chokers earlier, now they are calling you jokers.”The South African skipper had just lost the 2011 World Cup quarterfinal against New Zealand by 49 runs while chasing a target of 222, and it fitted into the template of a team notorious for faltering in the climax. Still, that question was a knife being twisted in. Smith, with enormous restraint, spoke about why his men’s campaign ground to a halt.&#...

Ultimately you get luck and it worked out. Lord’s is a place where every Test cricketer wants to play. Plenty of South African fans were there and it was one of those special days. It’s not always one-sided, you absorb the pressure and it was about maximising the scoring options,” Markram, who was adjudged Player of the Match, said.
