NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian cricket team for their remarkable performance against Afghanistan in the ongoing ODI World Cup. He praised the Men in Blue for securing back-to-back victories in the tournament.
On his official social media account, PM Modi commended the team for their sparkling all-round performance against Afghanistan. He acknowledged India’s memorable victory in the opening match against Australia and their impressive win over Afghanistan in the World Cup.
“After a memorable win in their opening match against Australia, our cricket team continues their excellent performance with an impressive win against Afghanistan in the World Cup. Congratulations to the team,” PM Modi posted on X.

In the match, India chased down Afghanistan’s challenging target of 273 runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role in the victory by registering the fastest century by an Indian at the World Cup. His explosive innings included breaking the record for the most sixes in 50-over cricket, previously held by West Indian Chris Gayle.
Afghanistan had posted a competitive total in their innings, with skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai contributing significantly with scores of 80 and 62, respectively.
Jasprit Bumrah led the Indian bowling attack, claiming four wickets while conceding only 39 runs on a placid surface. All-rounder Hardik Pandya also made crucial contributions with the ball, taking two wickets in his 10 overs. Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav chipped in with a wicket each.
Rohit Sharma’s explosive innings, along with a solid partnership with Ishan Kishan, set the tone for India’s convincing victory. Kishan and Virat Kohli also made notable contributions, with Kohli hitting the winning boundary to seal the win for the hosts.
The Indian cricket team’s impressive performance in the ODI World Cup drew praise from the Prime Minister, boosting the spirits of the players and fans alike.
