Ishan Kishan replaced the right-handed Gill in the Australia game, a match that India won by six wickets. In this match, both Kishan and established batsmen Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer were dismissed without adding any runs to the scoreboard.
However, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli then came together and forged a pivotal 165-run partnership that secured the victory.
The 24-year-old Gill has been in remarkable form over the past year, amassing an impressive tally of five ODI centuries. His consistent performance is expected to play a crucial role in India’s quest to recapture the trophy after a gap of 12 years.
