The country’s richest sporting body has donated Rs 2.25 crore for gym equipment at the Capital’s ‘MPs only” Constitution Club of India (CCI). This week, the BCCI made public the minutes of its December 21, 2022 apex council meeting where the CCI request was approved. Among those at the meeting was Congress MP and BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, who also happens to be CCI’s secretary of sports. Suryakumar Yadav on batting heroics in 3rd T20I: Our captain said someone needs to put their hand up and win the match

India were 2-0 down in the five-match T20I series and eyeing a first bilateral defeat in the format since July 2021 and a first ever instance of three defeats in a single T20I series. Chasing 160, they’d lose Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over on a wicket that offered little help to the batters and got slower as the game progressed. But then, all of a sudden it looked all easy and light work for India as Suryakumar Yadav whipped his first ball for a four down the mid wicket boundary. Swiftly followed by a pull over deep square leg for six. The no. ICC T20I batter would make up for the recent disappointing outings in the India tour of West Indies as he navigated through everything the Windies through at him and notched up 83 runs off 44 deliveries. The shots? 52 percent of them behind sq...

A Tarrant Medal for individuals would be most fitting

Frank Tarrant | Photo Credit: Wikimedia Commons In the first-ever Test played, in March 1877, Australia had a player born in British India, Bransby Cooper, from Dhaka. A hard-hitting batsman, who once put on 283 runs with W.G. Grace in England, he made 15 and three in that Test. Cooper is remembered today mainly as an answer to a trivia question, but a man born in Melbourne a few years later, Frank Tarrant, has a deeper historical connection with Indian cricket. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the winners of a Test series between the two countries honours two giants, each with an intimate connection with the other’s country. Tarrant deserves recognition too.He was an all-rounder, probably the finest never to have played Test cricket. In the words of Wisden, he “swapped Melbourne for Mar...
