IPL 2023: None of Delhi Capitals’ Indian batters clicked, says Ricky Ponting | Cricket News – Times of India

CHENNAI: There was an air of inevitability around the Delhi Capitals’ loss on Wednesday night. Once Deepak Chahar sent back David Warner in the first over, anyone who has been keenly following both teams’ progress this season knew which way the match was headed. A target of 167 was still pretty achievable at that stage, at least on paper, but what transpired was exactly what one had come to expect. DC lost Phil Salt and Mitchell Marsh early, and then the CSK spinners never let the middle order get going. The defeat has more or less extinguished DC’s hopes of a playoff finish. The performance of the Indian batters has also left a lot to be desired, and in the absence of regular captain and destructive keeper-batter Rishabh Pant, the middle order has looked a bit out of sorts. 01:43IPL 20...

Wrestlers resort to crowdfunding to keep protest going – Times of India

NEW DELHI: With their funds starting to dry up, the leading wrestlers who are protesting against WFI’s sidelined chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh at Jantar Mantar here have turned to crowdfunding to sustain their movement. Several crowdfunding campaigns have sprung up to help the agitating wrestlers — led by Olympians Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshee Malikkh — in order to enable them to continue the fight for justice against Singh’s alleged sexual misconduct with seven female grapplers, including a minor. Within four days of the launch of their campaign, the wrestlers have collected Rs 6 lakh in cash. No digital transactions are allowed owing to the fear of online fraud. The wrestlers have come up with a setup at the protest site itself, with a senior India wrestling coach, who i...

Australia’s Twenty20 Big Bash League shortens schedule yet again

Australia’s premiere Twenty20 cricket competition is being shortened again in an attempt to counteract criticism that the Big Bash League schedule is too long. Cricket Australia on Friday said the league would be shortened to 10 games per franchise a year earlier than planned after it struck a deal with broadcasters, confirming the move from 56 to 40 regular-season games will happen this season. The playoffs will also be tweaked, going from five teams qualifying to four, with a yet-to-be-determined four-match finals format. The tournament schedule is expected to be announced in July and matches will begin in December. The reduction in men’s matches takes the competition back to 2017-18 when the eight-team Big Bash was in its prime. The reduced competition timeframe should allow the seas...

Jos bhai sacrificed his wicket because of my wrong call: Yashasvi Jaiswal

Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Yashashvi Jaiswal on Thursday scripted the fastest half-century in the history of IPL. The young gun brought it up in just 13 balls and said he’s gonna remember the innings for a long time and that it was intense and one of the really memorable matches he’s played. However, before he ended up playing one the best knocks of this IPL, Jaiswal saw his opening partner Jos Buttler getting run out owing to a mix-up, after which the onus was on him to help the team. After the fourth delivery of the second over, Jaiswal called for a single that didn’t seem possible, which led to Jos Buttler being run out at the non-striker’s end. Jaiswal had been told by Buttler to hold off, but the Englishman ultimately gave up his wicket as Jaiswal couldn’t get the message and mo...
