This is what my job is: MS Dhoni elaborates on his role with the bat for CSK in IPL 2023

Eight innings. 96 runs at a strike rate of 204.26. That’s what the Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni has done with the bat in the 2023 Indian Premier League. Coming in to bat in the death overs, the top scorer in the last over of the league, Dhoni has been able to go for big shots without taking much time in the middle. An issue he had struggled with over the past couple of seasons in the league. Against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, he’d come in to bat in the 17th over, Dhoni would score a nine-ball-20. “This is what my job is, I have told them this is what I am supposed to do, don’t make me run a lot and it has been working. This is what I need to do, happy to contribute,” he’d tell in the post-match conference. Defending 168 at Chepauk, the hosts managed to dismiss Delhi 27 runs sh...

SYNOPSIS: Having waited for six home games for a slow strip with turn, Chennai Super Kings aced the conditions to defeat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs. So far this season, the MA Chidambaram Stadium pitches have been batting-friendly and Chennai Super Kings were unable to bank on their tried and tested home strategy of unleashing spinners on rival batsmen. On Wednesday, for the first time, the home team got a track which was to their liking. Even in the first week of April when both the teams scored over 200, this particular pitch offered grip and turn. Having been exposed to the hot conditions over the past week, this was the driest surface CSK has played on this season. Super show with the ball from @ChennaiIPL! 👏 👏 The @msdhoni-led unit beat #DC by 2⃣7⃣ runs in Chennai to seal their 7⃣t...

We threw wickets away: DC captain David Warner reflects on loss to CSK

A dejected Delhi Capitals captain David Warner was not a happy camper after his side lost to Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs in their Indian premier League encounter on Wednesday. The Aussie expressed disappointment with the batting of his side saying that the failure to rotate strike and throwing wickets away led to a loss which makes it very difficult for the Capitals to reach the qualifier stage. “We lost a wicket in the first over. Our opening combination is crucial and we even lost a wicket to a run-out. We threw wickets away and put too much on pressure on ourselves. It Was a gettable total and we needed a better first six (overs). We couldn’t rotate strike in the middle overs. We needed to try different things but we couldn’t. You can be conservative, but when you hit a wide half-...

IPL 2023, CSK vs DC Emotional Rollercoaster: Inception and deception starring MSD, a prayer or a requiem and a jet plane called Lalit

Inception and deception, starring MS In his helicopter-shot whirling heyday, few batsmen used to guess a bowler’s designs in the death overs of a bowler other than MS Dhoni. His anticipation and smarts remain intact in the twilight of his career too. He reads the best intentions of the bowler. So on the third ball of Khaleel Ahmed’s 19th over, he hung back, expecting a short ball. And so it turned out to be, as he flayed the ball over the midwicket to the rapturous crowd. The next two balls, he would shuffle back and across, for he knew Khaleel would full and far, assuming that Dhoni would miss the ball. He missed the first swipe, it was too wide that it was deemed illegal. The next ball was similar and Dhoni threw his bat at it and managed a thick-edged four. The next two balls, he dit...

From European Cup to Champions League, the two Milan clubs ‘are used to these moments’

And just like that, one club was split into two. The Milan clubs were Succession done differently than HBO. Inter had been born out of AC. A split in ranks at the original club owing to the Italian Football Association introducing a law in 1907 that didn’t allow teams to sign foreign players. Milan, the champions at the time, wouldn’t feature in the upcoming season. Few among the hierarchy at the eight-year club looked at the injustice as reason enough to form a faction of their own. Internazionale, they called it, terming themselves ‘brothers of the world’. And that’s how from a one-club city, the Derby Della Madonnina came into being. Despite its reckless use these days one needs to emphasize the phrase, Milan derby is ‘unlike anything else’. When the two play, it’s not the neighbourh...
