Lot of top-order players in other teams are batting better than Prithvi Shaw: Ricky Ponting | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Prithvi Shaw's pre-tournament net sessions had convinced Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting that a breakthrough IPL season awaited him but he now has to admit that a lot of openers in other IPL teams are performing better than the colourful Mumbai batter.Shaw has been dropped after playing six games and it is unlikely that DC will go back to him anytime soon."I think it's 13 games (considering IPL 2022 as well) since Prithvi has made a 50 opening the batting for the Delhi capitals. There are a lot of other players at the top of the order with other teams that are playing a whole lot better than Prithvi," Ponting said ahead of the team's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday.Shaw scored just 47 runs in six games in this IPL."Prithvi at his absolute best we know he...

Prithvi Shaw has failed to give us spark at the top: Ricky Ponting

I think it is 13 games (12) since Prithvi has made a fifty while opening the batting,” Ponting told the reporters here. “We needed to find that spark at the top of the order, and Prithvi has failed to give us that start. The journey that helped mystery spinner Varun rediscover his mojo

On a roll: Varun has been in the thick of things for the Kolkata side. | Photo Credit: K. MURALI KUMAR The popular theory is that a ‘mystery spinner’ not named Rashid Khan either dies a quick death or slowly slips into in-consequence. The most famous example is Sri Lankan Ajantha Mendis, who bamboozled batters for a couple of years before disappearing into thin air. In last year’s Indian Premier League, that fate had seemingly befallen Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy. Where he had scalped 18 wickets en route KKR’s run to the final in 2021, he had just six wickets to show in 2022. Ingloriously, he was even benched for a few matches and soon lost his spot in the Indian National team. The current season has been one of rediscovery for Varun. The 31-year-old has already pi...

Happy for Varun, Markande comebacks: Kumble | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: A striking, and rather refreshing feature of this year's IPL, now at the mid-way stage, has been the massive success that the leg-spinners have enjoyed. If veterans Piyush Chawla (11 wickets in 7 games@17.45 for Mumbai Indians) and Amit Mishra (4 wickets in 4 games@16.25 for Lucknow Super Giants) have reminded us about their class, Varun Chakravarthy (13 wickets in 8 games @18.38 for Kolkata Knight Riders) and Mayank Markande (8 wickets in 5 games @16.75 for Sunrisers Hyderabad) have staged superb comebacks, and someone like a young Suyash Sharma (9 wickets in 6 games@21.66 for KKR) has made an immediate impact in his first IPL. In between all this, Yuzuvendra Chahal (12 wickets in 8 games@20.58 for Rajasthan Royals) and Ravi Bishnoi (8 wickets in 7 games@25.75 for LSG) have bee...

Ryan Mason says positive energy back at Tottenham after Harry Kane reveals Daniel Levy meeting

Tottenham Hotspur’s players held a ‘clear the air’ meeting with chairman Daniel Levy after the 6-1 hammering at Newcastle United last weekend, according to striker Harry Kane. The debacle at Newcastle, which more or less put paid to Tottenham’s top-four hopes, resulted in the players reimbursing fans’ costs for the trip to Tyneside. It also cost stand-in manager Cristian Stellini his job, with former midfielder Ryan Mason taking charge of Thursday’s battling 2-2 home draw against Manchester United. After the United game, Kane said talks were held with the under-fire Levy, who many Tottenham fans blame for the club not winning any silverware since 2008. “The chairman asked for a meeting,” Kane, the club’s record scorer said. “Obviously I won’t go into what was said but I think it was imp...
