IPL 2023: Shubman Gill, Rahul Tewatia help Gujarat Titans seal last-over thriller against Punjab Kings

Synopsis: Despite a late lull in the run chase, seamless Shubman Gill anchors Gujarat Titans to victory after strong bowling performance against Punjab Kings. As Punjab Kings walked out to defend the well-below-par total of 153 in Mohali on Thursday, skipper Shikhar Dhawan knew early wickets were imperative. He had a solid, varied bowling line-up to work with, but buoyed by form and confidence, the Gujarat Titans top order took them apart. At the heart of it was Shubham Gill, the freshly-anointed prince of all-format batting in India. Even as Wriddhiman Saha took the responsibility of being the early aggressor – hitting a 19-ball 31 that would prove to be the springboard as Gujarat notched a six-wicket win with a ball to spare – the magnetic ease of Gill’s strokeplay was on full display...

IPL 2023, PBKS vs GT emotional rollercoaster: Rahul Tewatia, a noun, a verb, an IPL emotion & Hardik Pandya ‘s aesthetic off drive

Rare miscue for Shikhar Shikhar Dhawan falls, moving down the track to a seamer. It doesn’t happen often. Usually, when he goes down the track, unlike many, Dhawan doesn’t try to smash the ball. He gets into a position from where he manoeuvres the ball either up and over or through gaps. He can go over off or on the leg side, twisting his body into position from where he unfurls the pick-up shot over leg or a more expansive drive through off. And that’s what he was looking exactly to do against Joshua Little in the 4th over. Down he went the track, twisted his body, and tried to pick-up the length ball over wide mid-on but instead, ended up miscuing a catch to mid-on. – Sriram Veera Out of the shell & smashing them For years, Matt Short has been grappling with self doubts. From hiding in the restroom to capitalising on Nepo’s blunder: Ding Liren finds a way back in World Championship

Before the 2023 World Chess Championship began, Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi was asked by FIDE what his secret for success was. “Just like in the movie Kung Fu Panda, there is no secret ingredient in my soup. I tried not to put in any secret ingredients. That’s probably the only trick,” he smiled. His opponent across the board, Chinese GM Ding Liren, has clearly discovered the secret ingredient. Just three days back, chess analysts were predicting a short World Championship after Ding came apart at the seams, losing Game 2 to Nepo. Until that stage, like a poster boy for Murphy’s Law, everything had gone disastrously for him. He moved hotels a day before Game 1, he was in a terrible shape mentally until Game 2 with his mind being plagued by “strange things”, and, by his own admission...

It is too late to change action, he can only tweak it and pick his tournaments: Bishop’s advice to Bumrah

Someone who has endured multiple back injuries himself, former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop can imagine what a "generational" talent like Jasprit Bumrah is going through at the moment. The 29-year-old underwent a surgery in New Zealand last month following recurring back issues that have kept him away from the game since September 2022. Bumrah is now racing against time to get fit for the ODI World Cup at home in October-November. Bumrah's "unique" action has worked wonderfully for him but it has also put a lot of load on his back, making him susceptible to injuries. Bishop, who could have played a lot more than 43 Tests and 84 ODIs if it wasn't for injuries, feels it is too late for Bumrah to change his action at this stage of his career and he can only be "managed" by picking an...
