Chelsea sack Graham Potter with club 11th in Premier League; Bruno Saltor named interim boss

Chelsea have sacked manager Graham Potter, the London club said on Sunday after a string of poor results left the team 11th in the Premier League. Potter had been signed by Chelsea’s new ownership in September after they prised him away from Brighton & Hove Albion but the Englishman lasted 31 games, winning only 12, before the owners pulled the trigger. His last game in charge was Chelsea’s 2-0 league loss at home to Aston Villa on Saturday. “Graham has agreed to collaborate with the club to facilitate a smooth transition,” Chelsea said in a statement. “In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future. “B...

IPL 2023: Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli make it an open and shut case

The up and coming Tilak Varma demonstrated his big-hitting prowess as well as his composure, but a masterly show by Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis put the 20-year-old’s effort into shade, as Bangalore chased 172 in 16.2 overs and eight wickets in hand. It was a statement of intent as much as a victory. Oldguards put on show Towards the end of RCB’s stroll, Kolhi and Du Plessis were like a pair of old friends having some Sunday fun in a club game, their sole motivation, to test each other’s skills and athleticism. For one thunderous Kohli stroke, Du Plessis would hit two; for one tight Du Plessi single, Kohli would sneak. Beyond a point, when the clash was effectively settled, both seemed to compete among themselves. What unfolded was thrilling batting, two masters of the game batting w...

IPL 2023: We want to take one game at a time, says RCB’s Virat Kohli after dominant win against MI

Royal Challengers’ Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 82 went a long way in securing Bangalore’s victory against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Kohli with captain Faf du Plessis opened the batting and built a partnership of 148 runs in a chase of 172. “I thought it was a phenomenal win, a homecoming after 4 years. Couldn’t have asked for a better game. We bowled well for the first 17 overs but then credit to their batters especially Tilak who batted really well. It was a very comprehensive win and we wanted to win with balls to spare as it will benefit the NRR,” Kohli said while talking about the win. “The new ball was tricky, that’s where we shifted the momentum, they can ride on that momentum from the last two overs of their batting but the way we started nullified all that momentum. We kept the p...

IPL 2023: Of an upcoming farewell to Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Chepauk, the ultimate fortress

As far as homecomings go, it is hard to look beyond Chennai Super Kings’ return to the field in 2018 after a two-season suspension. That season, Chennai played only one match at home before political issues in the state made them shift base to Pune. As their team, one where each and every individual in the city believes it is his or hers, returns to their den, there is a palpable atmosphere that is building up for not just the first match against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, but also for the season. The city is gearing up to give their favourite off-screen hero a mother of all farewells. MS Dhoni may not have said this season would be his last, but that seems to be the narrative that every fan over here is assuming. Ever since the team landed in the city for the preparations on March...
