I have been hearing this for the last 2-3 years. He will continue to play: Rohit Sharma denies IPL 2023 being MS Dhoni’s last

With every IPL season since 2020 has come the possibility of it being the last chapter of the league’s most experienced player and one of its most successful components. MS Dhoni.

The former India captain, who retired from international cricket in August 2020, has continued to feature in the league since and even won his 4th title with Chennai Super Kings in 2021.

With the air around the 16th edition of the league being a last dance for MSD, the current India captain Rohit Sharma believes that it won’t be.

“I don’t know if it’s his last season. I have been hearing this for the last 2-3 years. He is fit enough. He is still playing. He will continue to play,” Rohit said in a pre-season press conference of Mumbai Indians.

Earlier, Dhoni’s former CSK teammate, Suresh Raina had also suggested the same during a post-match interview in the recently concluded Legends League Cricket.

“He can play the IPL next year as well, you never know,” Raina had said. “He’s been batting well and looking fit, it depends on how the performance is this year. It may be a little challenging since him and (Ambati) Rayudu haven’t played the tournament since one year. I think the team is quite strong, a lot of young players are coming through the ranks. (Ruturaj) Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja), (Ben) Stokes, Deepak Chahar…and there are more young and dynamic players in that side. Let’s see how they play.”

CSK will open their IPL campaign in the opener against defending champions Gujarat Titans on Friday, March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
