India implode as Australia take ODI series 2-1 with 21 run-win

‘I doubt if players will take breaks during IPL’ says Rohit Sharma who urges IPL franchises and Indian players to take care of their bodies

With a few Indian players struggling with injuries, from Jasprit Bumrah to Shreyas Iyer, much focus has been on how the IPL franchises handle the players considering the ODI world cup will be played in October this year. However, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma reckons he “doubts if that (players taking breaks during IPL) will happen but.” “It’s all up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some indications to the teams but at the end of the day, its upto the franchises. And more importantly, its up to the players. They are all adults; they have to look after their bodies. If they feel it’s getting a bit too much, they can talk about it and take a break in one or two games. I doubt if that will happen, but,” said Rohit after India went down in the series decider to Aust...

Punjab Kings will seek turnaround in fortunes under new skipper Dhawan

In a quest to secure its first Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs berth since 2014, Punjab Kings will be bolstered by a new leader in Shikhar Dhawan and England all-rounder Sam Curran, who was roped in for ₹18.5 crore at the auction in December, making the 24-year-old the most expensive buy in the league’s history. Following its defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2014 final, its only appearance in an IPL summit clash, Punjab hit rock bottom when it finished last in the points table in the following two seasons. In the last eight editions of the tournament, a fifth-place finish in 2017 is the best the Kings can boast of. Also, a change in name in 2021, from the erstwhile Kings XI Punjab, failed to turn Punjab’s fortunes around. Potent pace attackWhile the Dhawan-led side has a ...

IPL decides to allow captains to name the team after the toss

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has decided to allow the captains to name the team after the toss, instead of the convention of exchanging the team sheets before the toss. “Each captain shall nominate 11 players plus a maximum of five substitute fielders in writing to the IPL Match Referee after the toss,” states clause 1.2.1 of the IPL’s Match Playing Conditions. The introduction of an Impact Player, a substitute player, could well be a game-changer. The change in the playing XI rule, to be effected during the 2023 edition starting on March 31, will help neutralise the home advantage, with the league set to be played on home-and-away basis for the first time since 2019. The inaugural edition of SA20 — a franchise league in South Africa with all six team owners being IPL team ow...

Speaking after the match, Rohit Sharma said, “It’s a collective failure; we can take a lot of learnings from this series. Credit to the Australians. Both the spinners applied the pressure, and so did their seamers.” Australia defeated India by 21 runs to clinch the series 2-1. Australia made a competitive 269 against India after opting to bat. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa (4/45) shone bright with the ball as Australia bundled out India for 248 in 49.1 overs. Pitch was challenging in second half but we failed to build partnerships: Rohit Sharma | Cricket News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Poor application and their failure to build substantial partnerships was the reason for India's downfall while chasing a target of 270, which wasn't much according to skipper Rohit Sharma.India lost a bilateral ODI series at home after four years and it was Australia under Aaron Finch that had beaten Virat Kohli's side back in 2019."I don't think it was too many runs (269). The wicket was a little challenging towards the second half. I don't think we batted well. Partnerships are crucial, and we failed to do that today," Sharma said at the end of the match. In fact, what he found disappointing was that the Indian players have come up the ranks playing on these slow turners."The mode of dismissals... you are born and brought up on these wickets.
