We would like to go one better this time, says Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara | Cricket News – Times of India

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Royals surprised everyone with their stupendous show to finish runners-up in the last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
Many believed one of the main reasons for their inspiring execution was the presence of Kumar Sangakkara in the RR dugout.
The legendary Sri Lankan cricketer added the much-needed out-of-the-box ideas which helped the inaugural edition champions perform at their best.
Sangakkara is hoping to carry the momentum in the 15th edition of IPL – which begins on March 31 — and said they would like to better last year’s show.
“We would like to go one better this time. Our target would be to complete the job this season by winning the title. We have been doing our homework right and preparing for another excellent effort this season. The overall feeling is positive,” said Sangakkara here on Tuesday.
The 45-year-old RR head coach was speaking during the official launch of the team’s new jersey. RR captain Sanju Samson, in-form batter Yashaswi Jaiswal and all-rounder Riyan Parag displayed the new outfit ahead of the season.
“Even though we did not have the full squad with us, we had a couple of preparatory camps with the domestic players in the last few months. Sanju was around and he has been guiding the youngsters in the off-season on and off the field. Some of the senior players including overseas stars would be joining soon and we would go all out in the camp,” said Sangakkara.
The Jaipur-based franchise lost to debutants Gujarat Titans in the summit clash at Ahmedabad in 2022. Despite the loss, the cricket fraternity was quite impressed with the outstanding display of RR throughout the season.
“With the kind of success we had last year, expectations are high from the stakeholders and fans this time around. It would be an added pressure on us to repeat last year’s remarkable attempt, but we are prepared for it. We would leave no stone unturned in our preparations. We have so many quality players in our side and they can raise the bar at the appropriate time,” said Sangakkara.
Royals also announced Luminous Power Technologies as their new title sponsor for 2023 season and RR CEO Jake Lush McCrum was happy about their new tie-up.
Royals will be kick-starting their 2023 campaign in Hyderabad on April 2 when they take on SunRisers Hyderabad. The first couple of home matches of RR will be played in Guwahati.
